Angkor Pottery Center’s current location is 3km south of Siem Reap Old Market, on the road

Here are the 3 standard classes on offer
In this hands-on class, guests learn how to create pots (e.g. plates, cups, and vases) on a
traditional potter’s wheel:
• 20-25 minutes learning pottery on one of the center’s 12 wheels,
• 15-20 minutes decorating your pots by drawing or carving patterns.
Please note: Items made in this introductory class cannot be taken home, there being no time
to fire them. However, each participant receives a beautiful fired ceramic necklace as a
souvenir gift.
This class offers a longer pottery experience, in which guests create their own ceramic piece to
take home:
• 40 minutes making pottery on one of the center’s 12 wheels,
• 20 minutes decorating your piece(s) with carved designs.
Guests may take home one item they make (plate, cup, or vase). Because this requires firing
in the kiln, your pottery will require 72 hours before it can be delivered.
We provide free delivery within Siem Reap city once your piece has been fired in our kiln.
Guests can choose a pre-fired plate, cup, or vase from our studio and decorate it with their
own designs:
• 40 minutes painting your ceramic piece,
• 20 minutes trying the potter’s wheel for fun while your artwork dries.
At the end of the activity, guests can take their painted item home immediately.
APC has 12 potter’s wheels, but Paruth has developed programs so that groups significantly
larger than 12 can get the most benefit from their pottery experience. Contact Paruth Hann

For all group bookings, we offer a 10% commission, including on purchases made in our shop.
Angkor Pottery Center uses authentic Cambodian clay, on which Paruth Hann has become an
expert. As well as using red-coloured local Cambodian clays, she has more recently
experimented with yellower clays from different parts of Siem Reap province. Paruth is an
expert on the kiln timings and temperatures of all these different clays; likewise on their
suitability for different kinds of glazes, with which she also experiments. As with clays, she is
always on the lookout for good glazes from different locations, whether local, or through her
international community of ceramic artist friends.
As Paruth (in her 2013 profile in Ceramics Monthly) expressed it: “I have learned to trust my
creativity and to experiment. I try new things all the time and my pottery friends from overseas
have really supported me in this.”
Paruth Hann is a pottery artist based in Siem Reap, Cambodia. She learned how to create
ceramic glazes from Bronwyn Kemp, a well-known teacher from the International Art School
in Sydney, Australia. Today, Paruth creates both new pottery designs and replicas of
traditional Khmer pottery shapes from past centuries, inspired by her proximity to the temples
of Angkor.
Paruth is the owner-manager of Angkor Pottery Center (APC), operating in Siem Reap,
Cambodia since 2009. Here, she welcomes and teaches Cambodians as well as international
tourists, including special classes for local schoolchildren.
Paruth was featured in the September 2013 issue of Ceramics Monthly, and her works were
exhibited in 2014 at the 3rd Southeast Asian Contemporary Ceramics Symposium. She has
continued to maintain her international pottery connections, and APC had a stall at the 2023
Angkor Sankranta Exhibition.
Visitors to APC have the opportunity to learn Khmer and Angkorian pottery-making
techniques. Under the guidance of Paruth Hann and her family team, guests can experience
the traditional process of making pottery using authentic Cambodian clay (see Clays & Glazes
below). Participants will learn how to shape pots, cups, bowls, plates, vases, and amphorae
using a potter’s wheel.
APC is more than just a pottery workshop. It is also a school, pottery studio, small factory,
showroom, souvenir shop, outdoor museum, cultural center, and art gallery – it even has its
own coffee shop, offering organic fruit and vegetable drinks from produce grown in the APC
garden, or at Paruth’s farm in her home village near Bakong Temple.
APC is a peaceful and creative place where visitors can relax, learn something new, and enjoy
Cambodian art and culture, under the guidance of a truly inspired and knowledgeable local
expert and teacher.
